The goddess series was painted throughout 2025-2026, inspired by artifacts of ancient matriarchal cultures, researched and referenced by archaeologist and anthropologist Marija Gimbutas and her contemporaries. I was reading the book The Great Cosmic Mother, which referenced Gimbutas often, and happened to find a textbook written by Gimbutas at a thrift store. I loved studying and painting these ancient objects. Originally small, portable, and personal, these power objects are enduring reminders of the earth’s matriarchal roots.
Modeled after the Fountain of Artemis of Ephesus, Villa d'Este, Tivoli. Painted during the 3/3/26 lunar eclipse (Full Blood Moon in Virgo).
11×14” acrylic on black paper. Ships flat.
